Epiphany of the Day

This inaugural blog just needs to happen and be done with. I have been procrastinating this process for a year, and finally, it is time. Do I suddenly have a clear sense of where to begin? No. Do I have the first 15 blog entries already written and perfectly edited? No. Do I know what my focus will be? Who my audience will be? How I will possibly keep up on this with a one-year-old in the house and a husband who shares my computer? No, no, and no. I’m starting anyway.

I’ll begin with a feature I hope to share periodically, titled, “Epiphany of the Day”. This latest epiphany occurred last week as I was absently watching my son, Lucas, eat his dinner. I was thinking of all the things I had planned to accomplish that night after he went to bed: make our dinner, eat and clean up, check emails, work on my business plan, start a blog, (didn’t get to that) and fold laundry. As he slowly enjoyed his food, jabbering while eating some and playing with the rest, I felt a sense of impatient urgency. “Come on Lucas, let’s finish up and get you off to bed,” I said to him.

(The Aha!)
I looked into his smiling face and unexpectedly realized that in a few moments, we would be coming upon the end of another day in his life. This day would end and we would never get it back. He would be one day older tomorrow. People always say it goes so fast. In moments like this, I realize why. I realize how easy it is to forget what is most important. I cleaned him up, pulled him from his highchair and held him close, so grateful for this moment together.

These reminders are priceless. Whoever is sending them, please keep them coming!

I love the way you capture the essence of how precious these moments are… truly you can’t get them back, whether you enjoy that moment, or you’re upset with them in that moment… no take backs. Thanks for your writing. You are awesome!

Alexis,
Congratulations! I just love the title of your blog. It reminds me of a concept in Fearless living called Shining Your Light…and you are certainly doing that here! Thank you for the inspiration and reminder of the power of gratitude to change our lives each and every moment. I look forward to supportingyou in your blogging endeavors.
